Philadelphia Mayor Picks Chinese Flag for ‘Diversity Day’ — Because Liberty Wasn’t Diverse Enough

A Mayor Who Thinks “Diversity” Means Flying a Foreign Regime’s Flag

Philadelphia’s Mayor Cherelle Parker apparently believes the best way to celebrate “Diversity Day” is by raising the flag of the Chinese Communist Party over City Hall. Yes, you read that right — the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence is now set to host the symbol of one of the world’s most oppressive regimes. Someone should remind her that “diversity” doesn’t mean rolling out the red carpet for authoritarian governments.

The Birthplace of Freedom, Now Forgetting Its Roots

Philadelphia — the city that once told a king to get lost, that gave us the Constitution, that stood as a symbol of liberty — is now preparing to fly the banner of a foreign dictatorship. This isn’t cultural exchange. It’s tone-deaf political theater that insults the city’s proud legacy of freedom.

Congressman John Mulliner Gets It, Mayor Parker Doesn’t

House Select Committee on China Chairman John Mulliner has called for the mayor to cancel the event, noting that the CCP flag doesn’t represent inclusion — it represents censorship, persecution, and one-party rule. He’s right. If anything, this ceremony sends the message that Philadelphia’s leaders are more interested in virtue signaling than protecting American values.

Maybe “CCP” Is Easier to Spell Than “Eagles”

Mayor Parker once made headlines for fumbling the city’s famous Eagles chant, so maybe “C-C-P” just felt easier. But here’s the truth — this isn’t about football or culture. It’s about a government that would jail her for free speech if she lived under its flag.

A Slap in the Face to Chinese Americans Who Escaped Oppression

Thousands of Chinese Americans in Philadelphia came here to escape that same regime. Many lost everything to find freedom. Watching the symbol of their former oppressor fly over their new home isn’t “inclusion.” It’s painful. It’s wrong.

A Trojan Horse for Influence

This event is reportedly supported by groups that echo Beijing’s talking points about “peaceful unification with Taiwan.” That’s not culture — that’s politics. And using “diversity” as cover for propaganda only erodes public trust even further.

Celebrate Freedom — Not Dictatorships

Philadelphia has plenty of authentic ways to honor its Chinese community — the Lantern Festival, for one, actually celebrates heritage and art. But raising the CCP flag? That’s not celebrating culture. That’s celebrating control. If the mayor wants to fly a flag that truly represents unity and courage, Betsy Ross already designed one a few blocks away.

Philadelphia Deserves Better

At a time when China is openly challenging America on the world stage, this decision feels reckless. Philadelphia’s leaders should be standing up for liberty, not lending legitimacy to tyranny. The city that once birthed a revolution shouldn’t be the one waving the banner of the very ideology our ancestors fought to defeat.
