What Trump Wrote
President Trump sent a plainspoken letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre reminding him that Greenland has strategic value and arguing the United States should not ignore the Arctic. He complained the Nobel committee snubbed him and said the world is not secure unless the U.S. has control of Greenland. Love it or hate it, the letter used direct language, not diplomatic fluff. That is vintage Trump and it put his foreign policy priorities on full display.
Why Greenland Matters
Greenland sits in a critical part of the Arctic where Russia and China are increasing activity. It has airspace, sea lanes, and natural resources that could affect NATO operations and U.S. defense posture. Historically Denmark administers Greenland, but geography and great power rivalry make the island a security concern for the United States. Saying this out loud forces a conversation most politicians avoid because it sounds blunt and politically risky.
Left’s Reaction Was Immediate
Mainstream left outlets and several Democrats turned the letter into evidence that President Trump is unfit. Television hosts called it proof of cognitive decline and former aides and relatives piled on. The tone was more theater than policy debate. Instead of engaging the substance about Arctic security and burden sharing in NATO, many rushed to insult the messenger and demand drastic action.
Democrats Called for the 25th Amendment
Several Democratic lawmakers publicly suggested invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump. Senator Ed Markey, Rep. Yassamin Ansari, and Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove all tweeted that the president was unfit and urged immediate action. Those calls are dramatic and extreme. Invoking the 25th is a constitutional move meant for clear incapacity, not policy disagreements or provocative letters. The spectacle showed how quickly political attacks replace measured debate.

The president of the United States is extremely mentally ill and it’s putting all of our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason—we need to invoke it immediately. pic.twitter.com/HaywXdWxDK

Reality Check
Public disagreements over diplomacy are normal. Leaders have different styles. Trump chose to be blunt about NATO, Greenland, and the Nobel. If you care about national security you should discuss the substance. If you prefer political theater, you had a field day. Either way, the episode reminded voters that debates about allies, burden sharing, and Arctic strategy are not going away. That matters more than media tantrums.
