The liberal media’s favorite defender of failing public schools, Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, was put in her place during a fiery exchange on Fox News’ The Story with Martha MacCallum. Weingarten, a key architect behind the disastrous school shutdowns during COVID—which crippled an entire generation of students—was forced to face the hard truth about the catastrophic state of American education. But when she tried to patronize MacCallum with a condescending “sweetheart” remark, the Fox News anchor delivered a brutal reality check.
MacCallum dismantled Weingarten’s tired arguments about throwing more money at failing schools, pointing out that bloated budgets haven’t improved student outcomes. “We know that money does not equate to a better outcome,” MacCallum asserted, citing New Jersey as a prime example of wasted taxpayer dollars. When Weingarten attempted to dismiss her with a smug “Martha, Martha, sweetheart,” MacCallum shot back: “Don’t call me sweetheart!”—a moment that exposed the arrogance of the left’s education elites.
Weingarten then stumbled through a weak defense of public school funding, claiming red states like Mississippi have seen improvements. But MacCallum wasn’t having it. “One of the things they have done in Mississippi is to expand (school) choice,” she fired back. “They’re also doing something really important, which is to expand teacher training because they understand that teachers themselves do not understand the things they are supposed to be teaching.”

The truth is, the left’s education agenda has been a disaster. Under President Donald Trump, school choice gained momentum, empowering parents to escape failing systems. Meanwhile, liberal policies have pushed pornographic books into school libraries while basic literacy plummets. “I was talking to a teacher…she said ‘I can’t hold a kid back who can’t read,’” MacCallum revealed—a damning indictment of the system Weingarten defends.
While the liberal media shields union bosses like Weingarten, Trump continues to fight for parents and students, demanding accountability and real solutions. The left would rather protect their failing bureaucracy than admit their policies have ruined generations of children.
