Canadian Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre recently showcased his sharp wit and intelligence when confronted by a progressive journalist on CTV. Poilievre is seen as a beacon of hope for Canada’s conservative movement, combining practical values with a quick mind that’s crucial when dealing with the evidently liberal-leaning Canadian media.
The political landscape appears to be shifting in Canada as Poilievre’s party gains significant ground against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government. Multiple polls indicate a growing dissatisfaction with Trudeau’s leadership, marked by policies that have led to high taxes, open immigration policies, and soaring inflation. This discontent is paving the way for Poilievre to potentially become Canada’s next Prime Minister. His handling of the media, as evidenced in this recent interaction, further exemplifies his readiness for the role.
During an interview on CTV, Poilievre was asked about President Trump’s executive order that affirmed the U.S. government’s recognition of only two genders, male and female. The reporter’s line of questioning was clearly an attempt to corner Poilievre into making a contentious statement. The exchange went as follows:
“The first day on the job, President Trump signed an executive order that the U.S. government will only recognize two genders, male and female,” the reporter posited. “If elected as prime minister, is that something you are going to walk in line with… What are your feelings on that executive order?”
Instead of taking the bait, Poilievre asked the reporter a simple yet effective question, “Do you have any other genders you’d like to name?” This unexpected retort left the journalist momentarily speechless, embodying the sort of quick thinking that is evidently lacking among many public figures today.
“Me, personally?,” the reporter stammered. “I,I,I am just asking if you are more in line with what he (Trump) is saying or do you agree with what he is saying. Is that something you would be in lockstep with if elected as prime minister?”
Poilievre, recognizing the opportunity to drive his point home, reiterated his question, emphasizing, “I’m not aware of any other genders. Do you have any others you want me to consider?”
“Well, well, personally,” the reporter struggled to reply, “I am a man, I’m a cis man. There are people who say they are gender-neutral, they are a trans person. Is that something you would recognize here?”
To this, Poilievre succinctly replied, “I’m only aware of two. If you come up with another list, you’re welcome to do that.” He continued with the powerful observation, “As far as I’m concerned, we should have a government that just minds its own damn business, and leaves people alone.”

This interaction highlights Poilievre’s ability to navigate the often adversarial media landscape, much like former President Trump, who was similarly known for his candidness and disdain for politically correct narratives. Poilievre’s media acumen suggests he is more than capable of holding his own against the relentless scrutiny that comes with being in the political spotlight in Canada.
