Trump Points to California’s Slow Count
President Trump went after California on Thursday, warning reporters that the state is “rigging the election” as votes were still being counted in several big races. That is not exactly a subtle message. He said the late-arriving mail-in ballots were a problem, and he argued that the count was moving in a way that should make voters uneasy. In a state where election results can drag on for days, or even longer, the delay gives plenty of room for suspicion to grow. Trump used the moment to hammer his long-time point that elections should be simple, secure, and honest, not a marathon of surprise ballot drops and endless waiting.
Los Angeles Mayor’s Race Stays Unsettled
One race drawing attention is the Los Angeles mayor’s contest, where the top finishers are still not fully locked in. The report said Spencer Pratt had an early lead on election night, while Democratic Councilwoman Nithya Raman and incumbent Mayor Karen Bass remained in the mix. Under California’s rules, the top two vote-getters move to a runoff if no one clears 50 percent, which means the race could keep dragging on. By the afternoon, only 62 percent of ballots in the mayor’s race had been counted. That kind of pace would make a tortoise look like it is running for Congress.
Gubernatorial Race Still Has Millions Outstanding
The governor’s race is also unsettled, with Republican Steve Hilton reportedly leading at 27.5 percent while more than four million ballots remained uncounted. That is a huge pile of votes still sitting in the hopper, and it explains why the final outcome is not set yet. Trump tied that uncertainty to his push for the SAVE America Act, saying the country needs proof of citizenship, photo ID, and tighter rules on mail-in voting. Supporters of election integrity have long argued that slow counts and loose rules invite trouble, and California keeps handing them fresh evidence to make the case.
Trump Revives Push for the SAVE America Act
Trump used the California fight to push his broader election reform message, saying Republicans should finally pass the SAVE America Act. He said the bill would end no-excuse mail-in voting and require proof of citizenship to vote, while limiting mail ballots to people with illness, disability, military service, or travel. In a follow-up post on Truth Social, Trump said Democrats were “stealing the Vote” in California and urged Republicans to act. He also listed other conservative priorities, including keeping men out of women’s sports and stopping gender-transition surgery for children, showing that he sees election integrity as part of a much larger fight over common sense and sanity in public life.
