Comey’s Message Was Not Exactly Subtle
James Comey showed up on NBC and delivered a message that sounded less like public service and more like a pep talk for the political class that cannot stand Donald Trump. With a straight face, the former FBI director urged prosecutors to “hang on” for two and a half more years so they can rebuild the Justice Department after Trump leaves office. That is a remarkable thing to say out loud, especially from a man now fighting his own legal battle. The timing matters too. Comey is facing a grand jury indictment from the Eastern District of North Carolina on two felony counts tied to alleged threats against President Trump. He says he is innocent, of course, because no Washington insider ever thinks the rules apply to him. But the bigger story is the mindset. Comey was not calling for reform based on law or fairness. He was talking like a political operator waiting for the next election cycle to rescue his side.
Deep State Dreams Are No Longer Hidden
Comey’s comments landed right after former CIA Director John Brennan admitted there is still a “legion” of people inside the DOJ, CIA, and other agencies who are resisting Trump. That is about as subtle as a bullhorn in a library. Brennan told MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace that these “professionals” are refusing politically motivated actions and are standing on their duties and the courts. Maybe that sounds noble on cable TV, but to ordinary Americans it raises a simple question. If federal agencies are packed with people openly waiting out a president they dislike, how can anyone trust the system to be fair? That is the real scandal here. The left spent years telling us the institutions were sacred, nonpartisan, and above politics. Now we are seeing the insiders practically wave the flag for the resistance from inside the building. It turns out the swamp does not drain itself. It just learns new talking points.
The Public Sees the Pattern Clearly
Between Comey’s courtroom drama and Brennan’s boastful comments, the message from the old national security crowd is hard to miss. They are not hiding their hope that Trump will be gone soon and that their allies can move back into control. They want time, patience, and a friendly media filter while the damage is cleaned up behind the scenes. But voters are not blind. They can see what happens when powerful people treat federal agencies like private clubs with their own political loyalty tests. Americans do not want a Justice Department that waits for one party to return to power before doing its job. They want equal justice, not a permanent bureaucratic resistance movement in a fancy suit and tie.
