Wayne Gretzky for Prime Minister? Trump Stirs the Pot Again!

Donald Trump, never one to shy away from throwing a verbal hand grenade, has done it again. This time, he’s taken aim at our neighbors to the north with a suggestion so outrageous and yet so perfectly on-brand that it’s hard not to chuckle. Trump has proposed that Wayne Gretzky, hockey legend and “The Great One,” should run for Prime Minister of Canada—or, as Trump put it, “soon to be Governor of Canada.”

Let’s break this down because it’s both hilarious and brilliant.

Trump’s Call to Arms: “Draft Gretzky!”

On Christmas Day, while the rest of us were focused on eggnog and ugly sweaters, Trump was busy trolling Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Truth Social. “Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada?” Trump asked. “You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign.”

Of course, Trump admitted Gretzky had no interest in the gig (probably because Gretzky, like any sane person, doesn’t want to untangle Trudeau’s policy mess). But Trump encouraged Canadians to start a “Draft Wayne Gretzky” movement just for the fun of it. And let’s be honest—who wouldn’t want to see Gretzky deke Trudeau into retirement?

The Gretzky family, known friends of Trump, even showed up at his Mar-a-Lago victory party back in November. Social media was quick to capture Wayne rocking a “Make America Great Again” hat while celebrating with Trump’s inner circle. Trump has a knack for blending friendship and theatrics, and this suggestion feels like another strategic play to keep the spotlight firmly on him while poking fun at Trudeau’s ongoing leadership struggles.

Trudeau’s Troubles

It’s no secret that Justin Trudeau is skating on thin ice. His deputy prime minister, Chrystia Freeland, recently resigned in a blaze of drama, and even members of his own party are calling for him to step down. With his popularity plummeting and the Conservative Party dominating the polls, Trudeau’s political survival is looking about as likely as the Maple Leafs winning a Stanley Cup.

Trump’s timing here is impeccable. By throwing Gretzky into the mix, he’s not just trolling Trudeau—he’s highlighting Canada’s political dysfunction and setting the stage for his own negotiations.

Trump’s Bigger Play

And that’s where the brilliance comes in. This isn’t just about trolling for fun (although let’s be real, Trump loves that). It’s part of a larger strategy. Trump’s been very clear about his plans to impose steep tariffs on Canadian goods unless Trudeau’s government tightens up trade policies and border controls.

By suggesting Gretzky—arguably Canada’s most beloved figure—Trump is hitting Canadians right in their national pride. It’s a move designed to get attention, spark conversation, and ultimately give him leverage at the negotiating table. After all, if you can make a country laugh while also making them squirm, you’ve already won half the battle.

Gretzky, for his part, has wisely stayed out of the fray. But his wife, Janet, reposted Trump’s comments on social media, which is a subtle nod of approval. The Gretzkys have a long history with Trump, and their friendship only adds credibility to this outlandish but oddly effective proposal.

What’s Next for Trudeau and Canada?

With federal elections looming in 2025, Trudeau’s days in office may be numbered. The Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, are poised to sweep the next election, and Trump’s comments only add fuel to the fire. Whether Gretzky runs or not (spoiler: he won’t), Trump has once again managed to insert himself into an international conversation and shape the narrative to his advantage.

As for Canada, maybe it’s time for a shake-up. After all, if the U.S. can send a reality TV star to the White House, why can’t Canada draft its greatest hockey player for PM?

Why? Canada is as far left as we currently are. Canadians need to do what the US did and get rid of the left party and get back to common sense solutions.

Pierre poileivre is leading in the poles by a large margin and is the right person for the job. He makes Trudeau look stupid and is conservative and the people know it. Trump is just being Trump. Canada might just be seeing the light having been controlled by a dictator for the last few years, and beyond seeing their rights dwindling over time just like Americans but worse. Even Europeans are waking up.

Stirring the pot? Perhaps Trump is simply having a little fun causing a distraction. I can take a joke, but enough of this nonsense. We need to move on to more serious matters.
