Fox Keeps Winning Prime Time
Fox News is still the heavyweight champ of cable, and April numbers show it clearly. In weekday prime time, the network averaged 2.9 million viewers and 284,000 in the key 25-54 advertising demo. Across the full day, Fox averaged 1.8 million viewers and 173,000 in that same demo. April was also Fox’s third-most-watched April ever, which is no small feat in a media world where some networks seem more interested in preaching than persuading. People tune in because Fox gives them something the others often do not: hosts who speak plainly, challenge the left, and do not act like every conservative is the villain in a bad lecture series.
Gutfeld And Watters Pull Huge Crowds
The biggest stars in the month were Greg Gutfeld and Jesse Watters. The Five led cable with 3.8 million viewers, while Jesse Watters Primetime followed closely with 3.6 million. Sean Hannity averaged 3.2 million, and Gutfeld! came in at 3 million. Bret Baier’s Special Report also landed near the 3 million mark. Those five shows took the top five spots in cable news for the month, which is a pretty loud message from viewers. Watters and Gutfeld also share time on The Five, making them two of the most watched personalities in the business. The left keeps looking for a magic trick to beat that kind of audience. So far, the trick appears to be wishing very hard and calling it “analysis.”
The Demo Numbers Tell The Story
Fox also owned plenty of the important 25-54 demo rankings. Gutfeld! led the way with 349,000 viewers in that group, followed by Jesse Watters Primetime with 335,000, The Five with 329,000, and Hannity with 319,000. Rachel Maddow’s weekly show landed fifth with about 280,000. That means Fox is not just winning on total viewers, but also reaching the audience advertisers want most. CNN and MS NOW did post some prime time gains, but Fox still held the bigger prize. And it probably does not hurt Gutfeld and Watters that they are both sharp enough to keep Jessica Tarlov busy on The Five. To be fair, she does make life easier for them.
