A Protest in Uniform
Major Jason Watson, 40, is a longtime Air Force officer and graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He repeatedly called for the removal of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. On July 1, Watson joined an impeachment demonstration outside the U.S. Capitol that was connected to a campaign supported by Democrat Rep. Al Green of Texas. Wearing his military uniform, Watson delivered a speech criticizing the Trump administration before walking onto the Capitol steps with a sign reading, “Impeach. Convict. Remove.” Capitol Police arrested him after he refused orders to stop demonstrating in a restricted area. Police said the arrest involved crowding, obstructing, and incommoding, not simply opposing Trump.
Ten Alleged UCMJ Violations
After the arrest, the Air Force opened an investigation into Watson’s conduct. On August 25, he was charged with 10 alleged violations under three articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The charges included three specifications under Article 88, which addresses contemptuous words by commissioned officers against certain government officials, including the president. Watson also faced five specifications under Article 92 for alleged disobedience of orders and two under Article 133 for alleged conduct unbecoming an officer. The allegations cover his political statements, his appearance at the Capitol in uniform, unauthorized travel, and refusal to follow certain uniform requirements.
Reported 24-Hour Isolation
Watson has been held in pretrial confinement since August 18. His attorney, Mutimer, told CNN on October 9 that the Air Force major remained isolated inside a Maryland county detention facility. Mutimer described the conditions as a potentially “cruel and unusual form of punishment.” The attorney said Watson is alone even when given time to eat or exercise. He also alleged that Watson is kept in a room where the light stays on around the clock. Those claims describe a severe form of detention before Watson has faced a military trial.
Why He Is Being Held Alone
During a September 18 preliminary hearing, military hearing officer Maj. Joshua Wendell addressed Watson’s confinement. Wendell explained that military rules restricting the housing of service members alongside civilian inmates contributed to the isolation. “He was placed in confinement because of the law, which puts him in solitary confinement,” Wendell said. His explanation suggests that at least part of Watson’s isolation is tied to military detention requirements, rather than a disciplinary finding inside the county jail. That distinction is now an important part of the case.
Defense Challenges the Court-Martial
Watson’s legal team has challenged the government’s effort to pursue a general court-martial, the military’s most serious criminal trial proceeding. During the September hearing, his attorneys asked that the charges be referred to a special court-martial instead. Watson says his oath to the Constitution motivated his actions and argues that political criticism should not automatically become criminal contempt. His defense also cited former Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, who faced military charges after criticizing senior leadership over the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. Scheller spent nine days in pretrial confinement before his case was resolved through a special court-martial, and Watson’s attorneys have raised that difference in treatment.
Possible Penalties
If convicted, Watson could face dismissal from the Air Force, loss of military benefits, and imprisonment. The final consequences would depend on the charges proven and the sentence imposed. For now, the case remains focused on whether his conduct while in uniform violated the military rules cited in the charges and whether a general court-martial is warranted.

We don’t need jerks like this officer in the US Military using his uniform to degrade the commander in chief… dumb him in the trash!
Treason is a death sentence he needs to be charged with treason
