Shots Reportedly Interrupt The Dinner
What was supposed to be a polished Washington social night turned into a security scare, according to multiple reports and videos shared online. Minutes before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was set to begin at the Washington Hilton, people inside the venue said they heard several gunshots. The event reportedly had President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Speaker Mike Johnson, Secretary Pete Hegseth, Karoline Leavitt, DNI Tulsi Gabbard, and other officials in attendance. Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, was also reportedly there and was seen shaken as the situation unfolded. For a town that loves to preach about “norms,” it sure got a fast lesson in how fragile a fancy dinner becomes when real danger shows up.

Secret Service Moves Fast
Videos circulating on social media show Vice President JD Vance being moved out quickly, while President Trump and Melania were hustled away from the room on the other side of the stage. Reports say the shooter may have tried to enter through a magnetometer checkpoint and was stopped by Secret Service agents before getting into the main dining area. One account claimed a Secret Service member may have been hit, but that the bullet was stopped by a protective vest, which would be a reminder that those vests earn their keep. Details were still being sorted out, and not every claim matched every other claim, which is usually what happens when the internet jumps on a breaking story before the facts catch up.
This is an image, unconfirmed, that I believe to be the body of the shooter at the @whca dinner.

Confusion Spreads Online
As is now standard procedure in the age of social media, the first wave of posts mixed real video, shaky claims, and plenty of guesswork. Some reports said the alleged shooter was shot and killed in the lobby, while other images and clips suggested he was still alive and being held down by law enforcement. One reporter said he believed he had an image of the body, but that was not confirmed. Other posts claimed the suspect was a 31-year-old man from Torrance, California, and even tossed in a “teacher of the month” detail, because apparently no breaking story is complete until somebody on X starts building a biography out of thin air. Until officials confirm the identity and sequence of events, the smart move is to treat every online rumor like a campaign promise in an election year.
