Raskin Revives An Old Fight
House Democrats are once again trying to use the 25th Amendment as a political weapon against President Trump. Led by Rep. Jamie Raskin of New York, the new proposal would create a 17-member commission to decide whether Trump is fit to serve. This is not some fresh idea born from sudden wisdom. Raskin says he has tried this before in 2017 and 2020, which tells you plenty about the strategy. When voters do not hand Democrats the White House, they often start shopping for paperwork instead of persuasion.
The Plan Is Built To Go Nowhere
The bill would rely on Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, which allows the vice president and Cabinet, or a Congress-created body, to declare a president unable to do the job. Under this proposal, the commission would review whether Trump is mentally or physically unable to carry out the duties of office. But there is a small problem for the grand scheme. Republicans control Congress, Trump has veto power, and Vice President J.D. Vance would still need to approve any action. In other words, this looks like political theater with a very expensive stage prop.
Democrats Keep Making The Same Play
More than 85 Democrats in Congress recently called for Trump to be impeached or removed through the 25th Amendment after his comments about bombing Iran. The legislation has 50 Democratic co-sponsors, and Raskin says Congress has a duty to create a permanent commission on presidential capacity. He argued that public trust in Trump is at record lows and claimed the nation faces a dangerous moment. That is rich coming from the party that spent years pretending Joe Biden was sharp as a tack while ordinary Americans could see the decline with their own eyes.

The White House Fires Back Hard
The White House did not bother with a polite press release and instead called Raskin a “stupid person’s idea of a smart person.” That is not the kind of line you print and then frame, but it sure got the message across. Spokesperson Davis Ingle said Trump’s sharpness, energy, and accessibility stand in stark contrast to the Democrats’ handling of Biden’s decline. And that is the heart of this story. Democrats are not focused on helping the country recover, secure the border, or lower costs. They are still obsessed with finding new ways to stop Trump, even when the Constitution and the math both say no.
