Suspect Named in Federal Plaza Incident
Authorities have identified the suspect accused of deploying an incendiary device outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York City as 43-year-old Andrew Arrabaca, according to Fox News. Police said Arrabaca had “anti-ICE stuff on him” at the time of the incident. That detail matters because this was not some random sidewalk meltdown over a bad bagel. The building is a major federal site, and the target reportedly ties directly to the immigration fight now raging across the country.
What Officials Say Happened
FBI New York field office Assistant Director in Charge James Barnacle Jr. said Arrabaca had an unidentified liquid with him, then “put the liquid down, set some fireworks on top of it,” which caused what Barnacle described as a “little fire.” Officials also said Arrabaca was carrying a sign that read “ICE Off Our Streets.” The incident reportedly happened around 8:30 in the morning, when New Yorkers are trying to get to work and federal employees are trying to do their jobs without needing a bomb squad as part of the commute.

Why 26 Federal Plaza Matters
26 Federal Plaza is the Jacob K. Javits Federal Office Building, and it is not just another government office with bad lighting and worse coffee. The building houses several key immigration-related agencies, including U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Executive Office for Immigration Review, also known as Immigration Court, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. If someone shows up there with flammable liquid, fireworks, and an anti-ICE message, it is fair for the public to ask whether political rage has crossed into public danger.
Reports Point to Prior Anti-ICE Activity
ABC 7 reported that the suspect had a “history of anti-ICE activity,” citing the FBI. Additional footage reportedly showed the suspect dumping a bucket containing flammable liquid and other objects on the north side of the building before setting it on fire and running away. Thankfully, officials described the fire as small, but the size of the flames is not the only issue. The bigger question is why attacks or attempted attacks tied to anti-law-enforcement politics keep getting treated by some corners of our media like an unfortunate scheduling conflict instead of a serious warning sign.
