Hegseth Defiant After GOP Midterm Defeat, Fires Back at Massie’s Impeachment Threat

Hegseth Answers Massie’s Impeachment Threat

Pete Hegseth responded Thursday to an expected House impeachment vote with a defiant video statement following a Republican midterm defeat. Rep. Thomas Massie, Republican of Kentucky, is expected to lead the effort when lawmakers return from recess next week. Massie has said he plans to reintroduce articles of impeachment unless Hegseth resigns. Hegseth fired back by calling Massie a disgruntled, defeated congressman and the impeachment effort a sham. He compared it to the attempts to impeach President Donald Trump during Trump’s first term, saying the strategy was about personal destruction. Hegseth insisted that approach failed against Trump and would fail against him as well.

Hegseth Defends His War Department Record

Instead of backing away, Hegseth used the statement to highlight what he described as major accomplishments at the Department of War. He said the department had returned to its core warfighting mission, removed diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, dismissed failed leaders, restored deterrence around the globe, and revived recruiting to historic levels. He also pointed to efforts to rebuild the military and defense industrial base. Hegseth portrayed DEI as a Marxist ideology that had to be crushed, arguing that unity matters more than diversity and that men and women in the military must meet the same standard. He added that patriot extremism is not a real threat and declared that patriots are now in control.

Funding And Culture Become The Next Fight

Hegseth also attacked several policies he associated with the political left. He said being transgender is a mental illness incompatible with military service, rejected combating climate change as a military objective, and criticized renaming military bases in the name of understanding white rage. The secretary then turned to money, calling on Congress to approve a reconciliation package of at least $350 billion in addition to the Pentagon’s current $1.15 trillion defense budget. Hegseth said the next few months and years will be critical for the department and the Republic, arguing that the military must be funded for a dangerous world. He asked every patriotic member of Congress to support the plan.

Hegseth Tells Troops To Ignore The Noise

Hegseth closed with a direct message to American service members. He told troops not to blink, ignore the political noise, avoid hesitation, and stay the course while lawmakers fight in Washington. He placed President Trump at the center of that message, saying Trump has endured more than anyone can fathom and literally took a bullet for the nation. Hegseth recalled Trump raising his fist and saying fight, fight, fight, then promised that his department had only just begun its own fight. The statement made clear that Hegseth intends to answer the impeachment threat with a defense of his record and the America First agenda.
