Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, has reportedly made significant threats in response to former President Donald Trump’s intention to impose tariffs on Canadian exports. Trump had initially paused plans on imposing tariffs against Canada and Mexico but recently confirmed that he intended to proceed with a 25 percent tariff on the nations unless they complied with his border security demands. Ford expressed strong opposition to these tariffs while appearing on NBC News, claiming that he hasn’t encountered any Americans who support the idea, despite Trump’s substantial voter base. In a heated moment, Ford said, “We are the largest purchaser of alcohol in the world. We buy over 3,600 products from 35 states. I talked to the Governor of Kentucky and Mitch McConnell. Don’t touch our bourbon. I’m going after absolutely everything.”
Ford’s frustrations extended further as he underscored the interconnectedness between Canada and the U.S. in terms of energy, stating, “We keep the lights on for 1.5 million homes in manufacturing in New York, in Michigan, and in Minnesota.” As Ford addressed the implications of potential tariffs, he emphasized the economic repercussions that could ensue if Canada retaliated. He stated: “If he wants to destroy our economy and our families, I will shut down the electricity going down to the U.S. And I’m telling you, we will do it.”
The Premier elucidated a stern warning, particularly aimed at the Republican-led regions of the U.S., suggesting that they would bear the brunt of any retaliatory action. He said, “This is the last thing we want to do. It’s one person that’s coming to attack us economically. Your closest friend, your treasured ally, that will stand shoulder to shoulder with you in every situation you’ve faced, and he’s attacking the person, his number one customer.”
Ford emphasized the economic partnership between the two nations, noting that Canada is the leading trading partner for numerous U.S. states. He warned, “There’s no country in the world that buys more products off the U.S. than we do. We’re the number one trading customer to 28 states, and a lot of them are red states. They’re going to feel the pain like they’ve never felt before. We’re going to feel the pain, but I’ll tell you, Canadians are resilient, we’re strong, we’re proud, and we’re going to fight back like they’ve never seen before.”
In a previous statement, Ford had responded to Trump’s infamous comment about Canada being akin to the “51st state” by humorously suggesting an acquisition proposal, stating, “You know something, to the president I’ll make him a counteroffer. How about if we buy Alaska and throw in Minnesota and Minneapolis at the same time?”

Trump has proposed making Canada the 51st state which would combine the two economies and production into one super power but Canada’s government is hellbent on fighting the merger.
Bring it on Canada boy. And you can have Minnesota. .
Cut off our energy supply? Mr. Ford how much do you know about “Pipeline #5” that brings hydrocarbons through northern Michigan, across the Mackinaw straits down to Port Huron and under the St. Clair River to Sarnia? This pipeline supplies your entire “Chemical Valley” with oil. Do you want us to shut it down? Just so you know, the libtards in Lansing have been trying for years to shut it down, maybe your “Yapping” will give them the final push over the finish line they have been waiting for.
Daphne Moon @ STEADFAST AND LOYAL – why do you insist on referring to our current/sitting President, PRESIDENT Trump, as “former president”? First sentence second line.
Shame on you!!
Oops
You blinked.
Screw you and Clinton’s NAFTA!
Blame Canada, Blame Canada!
Well, Mr. Ford, time to squeeze you out of politics! You have a big mouth, and I hope your constituents show you the door!
So tired of you referring to our current sitting President Trump as “former”. So disrespectful.
Daphne Moon is just another clueless democrat political hack, who somehow thinks she’s relevant in spouting her canadian bull💩. She only hears what she wants to hear, and talks out her as$. Her disrespect towards our Commander in Chief shows a lot about her character, or lack their of.
Note to doper dude: Canada needs the U.S. economy more than the U.S. needs Canada. Sadly, Canada has turned into a Socialist state that isn’t good for their people or their economy.
Be careful, Kanook.
You may just reveal how much We DON’T need you.
When you have a little penis brain the only thing you get in Canada is frostbite balls
Ford’s missing a few spots on his domino’s. America would have a jolt of a hiccup if he wants to go to “war” with us, but Canada’s economy will go right down the toilet. He needs to remember: it’s better to silent and thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt. And he’s crossed that line.
All the US is asking is for Canada to stop the flow of drugs from Canada to the US. You would think this would be their obligation. Instead of doing this they threaten to cut off electricity to 3 states. It’s a shame that I enjoy some Canadian products because I will no longer purchase anything that comes from Canada. I hope that others will feel the same.
