Democrat Candidate Kisha Skipper Accused of Brawling With GOP Opponent’s Mother at Campaign Event

Campaign Event Turns Into a Physical Clash

Political campaigns are usually about speeches, handshakes, and promises. This one reportedly took a very different turn. Kisha Skipper, a Democrat seeking to unseat Republican Westchester County Legislator James Nolan, became involved in a physical altercation with Nolan’s mother, Donna, during an event at the Beczak Environmental Center in Yonkers. The clash reportedly unfolded during a break and near the restroom entrance. Several attendees stepped in as women struggled. That is a long way from the usual campaign routine, where the biggest hazard is generally a lukewarm coffee and an overstuffed mailer.

Police Describe How the Fight Began

Yonkers police said the incident began when Skipper got into an argument with a former campaign staffer during a break. Donna Nolan then tried to separate the two women. Police said Donna sustained an abrasion to her lip before she and Skipper began fighting. Donna was later taken to a hospital by ambulance. Skipper also appeared to suffer an injury, sharing a Facebook post that showed her wearing a sling at the entrance to a hospital emergency room. The injuries added a serious turn to what had already become a chaotic campaign gathering.

Video Shows a Chaotic Scene

Phone footage obtained by the New York Post showed several women involved in the confrontation near the restroom entrance, with attendees attempting to separate them. Reports also said Skipper had been questioned during the debate about questionable campaign donations. Rather than answering, she reportedly went to the restroom. That detail helps explain the sequence of events, but it does not settle who was responsible for the violence. The available footage shows a disorderly scene, while the full circumstances remain part of the police investigation.

James Nolan Gives His Account

James Nolan said in an Instagram post that a woman who claimed she was owed money had questioned Skipper. He said Skipper later argued with the same woman in the restroom, where Donna tried to intervene and de-escalate the situation. Nolan alleged that Skipper became violent after the door opened and her friends were behind her. He said multiple eyewitnesses described Skipper punching and scratching his mother, causing bleeding to her face and arm. Nolan also said cell phone recordings and surveillance footage were available for investigators. Those claims represent his account and have not been established as a final police finding.

Police Say No Charges Have Been Filed

Police said Skipper was released without charges and that no one was in custody. They also said no criminal charges had been filed against any party involved. According to police, the incident appeared to have been prompted by a personal matter and had not been determined to be politically motivated. That distinction matters because the fight happened at a campaign event, but investigators have not concluded that politics caused it. For now, the case involves competing accounts, video evidence, surveillance footage, and an investigation that remains ongoing.
