Sentence Handed Down in a Sickening Case
Felix Rojas, a 44-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced by a Manhattan judge to five years in prison after prosecutors said he sexually violated and robbed the body of a dead man on a New York City subway train. The victim, Jorge Gonzalez, was 37. According to reporting from the New York Post, the attack happened in April 2025 and left New Yorkers furious all over again when the punishment was announced. Rojas reportedly sat quietly during the hearing and said nothing, which is about the only decent thing he managed to do in this whole mess.
What Prosecutors Say Happened
Prosecutors said Gonzalez boarded the train, later lost consciousness, and died on a subway bench nearly three hours before Rojas arrived. Instead of getting help or alerting authorities, Rojas allegedly began touching and searching the dead man’s body, then pulled down his pants and raped the corpse. Court records cited by the Post say he also searched Gonzalez’s pockets and belongings during the assault. Prosecutors said he would pause when the train neared stations or other riders entered the car, then act like nothing was happening. That kind of twisted behavior shows exactly why public spaces need order, visible security, and consequences that mean something.
ICE Detainer and Immigration History
The Department of Homeland Security said Rojas entered the United States illegally multiple times dating back to 1998. ICE immediately lodged an immigration detainer after his arrest, and the Post reported that his sentence includes 15 years of supervised release once he leaves prison. At that point, immigration officials will try to deport him. Of course, New York City’s sanctuary policies may create another round of excuses and delays, because apparently some leaders think protecting citizens is optional while protecting criminals is a civic hobby. Rojas surrendered to police about three weeks after the attack, after surveillance images were released to the public.
