Kudlow Steps Into Bartiromo’s Sunday Slot
Fox News has named Larry Kudlow as the interim host of Sunday Morning Futures, the program formerly hosted by Maria Bartiromo. The network announced on September 25 that Kudlow will take over the Sunday broadcast from 10 to 11 a.m. Eastern. The move comes amid disputed reports about Bartiromo’s status at Fox News and gives the network a familiar conservative voice for the important stretch leading into the midterm election.
The Interim Assignment Runs Through November 8
Kudlow is scheduled to host the program through November 8, which is the Sunday after the midterm election. Fox News says it will name a permanent replacement after his interim duties end. That means the network is not presenting Kudlow as the final answer for the Sunday morning program. For now, viewers will see the longtime economic commentator in Bartiromo’s former time slot while Fox News decides who will take the chair on a permanent basis.
A Familiar Face for Trump Supporters
Kudlow brings a résumé that is well known to conservatives, especially supporters of President Trump. He served as director of the National Economic Council and assistant to the president for economic policy during Trump’s first administration from 2018 through 2021. After that administration ended, Kudlow joined Fox Business in 2021. He now hosts the weekday program Kudlow at 4 p.m. Eastern. Before joining Fox, he was a senior contributor at CNBC and hosted programs including The Kudlow Report, a post-market analysis show.
Kudlow Has Deep Economic Experience
Fox News also highlighted Kudlow’s earlier work in government and finance. From 1981 to 1985, he served as an associate director for economics and planning at the Office of Management and Budget during the Reagan administration. He also worked as chief economist and senior managing director at Bear Stearns, which was then a global investment bank, securities trading firm, and brokerage. That background gives Kudlow plenty of experience discussing economic policy, markets, and the issues that often dominate political coverage. His Sunday assignment will place that experience in a broader news setting.
Bartiromo’s Status Remains Disputed
The change comes amid conflicting reports about Bartiromo’s relationship with Fox News. Earlier this month, reports said Bartiromo had parted ways with the network after she allegedly leaked internal texts to the White House. Those messages reportedly showed that Fox News had told staff to stop amplifying “election conspiracies” that Trump spread during a speech the previous month. It was also reported that Bartiromo had allegedly been fired after Fox News rejected an election integrity segment. Her attorney, Bryan Freedman, called reports that she was fired or no longer employed by Fox “absolutely and unequivocally false.” He claimed that her legal team possesses evidence and witnesses supporting that position.
Her Public Message Offered Few Details
Bartiromo later addressed her followers on social media without explaining what comes next. “Thank you to all friends & followers for your amazing words. I am so grateful for the outpouring of love. I love you all. Here’s a great shot of the 🌈 breaking through, I snapped the other day. More to come,” she wrote on X. That brief message thanked supporters while leaving plenty of questions about her future. Meanwhile, Kudlow is set to host Sunday Morning Futures through the post-election Sunday, and Fox News will make the permanent decision afterward.
