Whistleblower Group Calls Out FBI For ‘Padding’ Domestic Terrorism Stats

Many officials within the FBI have allegedly been pressuring agents to reclassify their cases as “domestic violent extremism,” even though there is quite weak evidence that those cases need to be classified as such.

One ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), stated via a letter addressed to the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, this past Wednesday that the whistleblower groups at the FBI state that the bureau is “padding domestic terrorism data” in order to create the illusion of a much larger threat. The bureau has been mislabeling cases as Domestic Violent Extremists (DVEs) in order to prop up the “narrative” from the administration about the overall threat presented by DVEs, stated Jordan.

“From recent protected disclosures, we have learned that FBI officials are pressuring agents to reclassify cases as ‘domestic violent extremism’ even if the cases do not meet the criteria for such a classification. Given the narrative pushed by the Biden administration that domestic violent extremism is the ‘greatest threat’ facing our country, revelation that the FBI may be artificially padding domestic terrorism data is scandalous,” stated Jordan.

“We have received accusations that FBI agents are bolstering the number of cases of DVEs to satisfy their superiors. For example, one whistleblower explained that because agents are not finding enough DVE cases, they are encouraged and incentivized to reclassify cases as DVE cases even though there is minimal, circumstantial evidence to support the reclassification,” he went on.

Jordan also reported that the bureau had set up a system of rewards for any agents who go along with their plan and classify their cases under the new DVE label.

“Another whistleblower — who led at least one high profile domestic terrorism investigation — stated that a field office Counterterrorism Assistant Special Agent in Charge and the FBI’s Director of the Counterterrorism Division have pressured agents to move cases into the DVE category to hit self-created performance metrics,” explained Jordan. “According to whistleblowers, the FBI uses these metrics to dispense awards and promotions. Every whistleblower has called it an environment of ‘pressure’ within the FBI.”

Wray has made the claim that the DVE threat is most likely the main form of terrorism threatening the United States. This past year, the FBI head went in front of congress to testify that the 2020 election was feeding the threat and that the bureau estimated that DVE incidents could end up being quite a bit more prevalent due to the extreme radicalization that has taken place because of the election.

“Looking forward, the FBI assesses DVEs pose an elevated threat of violence to the United States, and some of these actors have been emboldened in the aftermath of the breach of the U.S. Capitol. We expect Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists, Anti-Government or Anti-Authority Violent Extremists, and other DVEs will very likely pose the greatest domestic terrorism threats in 2021 and likely into 2022,” Wray stated in their testimony to Congress back in June of 2021.

The letter from Jordan comes to light just a scant few days after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) alleged via another letter addressed to the Department of Justice and FBI that claimed that agents and officials were taking part in coordinated efforts to downplay evidence about Hunter Biden’s misconduct as wholesale disinformation.
