Chuck Schumer may be suffering from dementia. But more likely is the fact that he’s willing to forego amnesty for the “Dreamers” in order to have it as a campaign issue in the midterm elections. Because the bottom line is that Democrats really only care about power. This one could backfire on Democrats. Schumer has rejected building the wall, ending diversity lottery, limiting chain migration and punishing sanctuary cities. These are common sense solutions to the immigration problem. Poll after poll shows that voters agree with the president in these areas.

The truth is Chuck Schumer is gun shy after his ill advised shutdown of the federal government. He took a lot of heat from the leftists in the party for caving and signing a funding bill. Schumer was between a rock and a hard place inasmuch as whatever he did would damage the Democratic party. If he continued the shutdown the Democrats would have to defend shutting down the government to favor illegal aliens. If he shut down the shut down, he would have (and did) risk alienating the Bernie Sanders nutjob far leftwing radicals in the party.

Politico:

“This plan flies in the face of what most Americans believe,” Schumer said on Twitter. While Trump “finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hard-liners have advocated for for years.”

The one-page proposal released by the White House on Thursday would allow as many as 1.8 million young immigrants to become citizens, while also calling for $25 billion in spending on a border wall and security as well as sharply restricting family-based immigration and eliminating a visa lottery system. White House officials are hoping the Senate will put it up for a vote, but it appears doomed to fail.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders quickly shot back, tweeting that Schumer prefers “open borders & sanctuary cities over law & order and popular, common sense reforms.”

Soon after, Trump himself piled on with a personal insult aimed at Schumer.

“DACA has been made increasingly difficult by the fact that Cryin’ Chuck Schumer took such a beating over the shutdown that he is unable to act on immigration!” Trump tweeted.

Schumer has to know that Trump is not bluffing and although he might possibly get 60 votes for cloture, he cannot possibly get 67 votes to override Trump’s veto. Even less chance of getting 67% of the House votes. That would mean the only reason he is insisting on no negotiations is to keep his job as the top Democrat in the House. To hell with the DACA recipients. They are expendable.

Schumer has painted himself into a corner on DACA amnesty and it looks like the Dreamers have just been stabbed in the back for political expediency.
