The Green New Deal lost the vote in the Senate 0-57. Four Democrats voted with the Republicans and the remaining Democrats voted “Present”. If so many Democrats have been singing the praises of the GND, you would think the Democrats would vote for it unanimously.
It points to the truth. Democrats want to use the GND as a campaign issue but no one wants their name attached to the actual legislation. The Democrats are even complaining that a vote was held at all. Excuse me, but what is the point of writing a GND bill if it’s not to pass it?
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was supposed to be the young savior of the Democratic Party. Instead, she seems to be falling on her face.
Ocasio-Cortez, of course, is the democratic socialist from New York who pulled off an upset win in the 2018 congressional midterm elections. Although she had zero track record, she was quickly held up as a power player for the Democrats, flying around the country to campaign with the likes of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
But she’s finding out that there’s a lot more to being a lawmaker than having a nice smile and spitting out nonsensical answers on television (although admittedly, she’s a master at that). The Democratic wunderkind is so far nothing but a dud when it comes to actual accomplishments.
On Tuesday, the Senate voted on that chamber’s version of Ocasio-Cortez’s signature legislation, the Green New Deal, a sweeping environmental package that was touted by the congresswoman as vital to keeping us all from dying in 12 years.
Does anyone really believe that US Senators care how a freshman rep tells them to vote? https://t.co/jP3AqLqgHP

Except that Mike Lee is literally—literally—seven hundred thousand times smarter and more competent than you, and that’s an understatement. https://t.co/ZjNdhBpm1C

If the Green New Deal was a serious proposal, instead of a stunt, wouldn’t you want the Senate to vote on it?
