As of now, The Taliban are now refusing the let the United States extend their deadline for complete withdrawal, tossing out the demand that the U.S. Military leaves Afghanistan entirely by August 31st, as stated by Old Uncle Joe’s administration, seemingly disregarding a reported face-to-face meeting with top officials for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Monday.
The Taliban are also tossing out the demand that the U.S. stop all evacuations of Afghan nationals and to instead just focus on getting out the Americans and westerners.
“As a desperate U.S. effort to evacuate Americans from Afghanistan gained momentum on Monday, Taliban leaders rejected a suggestion from President Biden that American forces might remain past an Aug. 31 deadline to complete the operation, injecting fresh urgency into an already frantic process,” reported the New York Times.
Seemingly overnight, thousands of people were evacuated out, reports the White House, and even more, Air Force planes are moving into Kabul in an effort to hasten the entire withdrawal process, but “American officials are increasingly worried that even with the vast number of Afghans, Americans, and people of other nationalities evacuated in recent days — a total of about 10,400 people in the 24 hours from Sunday to Monday alone, according to the White House — many still remain to be rescued,” reported the Times.
So far, only a scant 4,000 Americans, of an estimated 10,000-15,000, have been rescued and evacuated out since the pullout through the Kabul airport started in the wake of the extremely fast Taliban takeover of the city, as reported by a leaked State Department cable.
As of Tuesday morning, Taliban militants are “no longer allowing Afghans to go to Kabul airport,” as noted by a report from the BBC. They also seem to be demanding that the United States solely focus on getting out its own citizens, even if they are still in Afghanistan past the August 31st deadline.
“We are not in favor of allowing Afghans to leave,” stated a spokesperson for the Taliban this past Tuesday. As stated by the BBC, the spokesman seemed to claim that all evacuating Afghans are a “violation” of the U.S.’s pullout agreement.

This seems to be in spite of what appears to be a major effort from Uncle Joe’s administration to try and force the Taliban to let them have even more time in order to get out the many thousands of people who still want to leave. This past Monday, The Washington Post stated, “CIA Director William J. Burns held a secret meeting in Kabul with the Taliban’s de facto leader, Abdul Ghani Baradar, in the highest-level face-to-face encounter between the Taliban and the Biden administration since the militants seized the Afghan capital, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive diplomacy.”
As of yet, it is still unclear whether Biden’s administration will push the issue of demanding more time in order to get any remaining Americans who are trapped and “stranded” by evacuation efforts, and the ever-worsening state of the area around the Kabul airport.
