Man Brutally Attacks And Kills Officer In Delaware

A man, age 30, has been charged in the brutal beating to death of a Delaware police officer.

On Sunday Morning, Keith Heacook, Delmar Police Officer Corporal, set out to respond to a call for help after his alleged killed apparently assaulted an elderly couple. Police stated, once he had arrived on the scene, he received a brutal beating and was repeatedly kicked in the head once he was on the ground and unconscious.

As reported by the Salisbury Daily Times, the unconscious and beaten body of Heacook was discovered by another group of law enforcement officials following the assault. He was quickly taken to a close-by trauma center and immediately placed on a ventilator and was forced to have a shunt placed into his skull.

This past Wednesday, the authorities confirmed that Officer Heacook had died from the injuries he had sustained during the assault.

Officials in the hospital in Baltimore pronounced Heacook clinically dead while he was still on life support. The organs of the officer are planned to be donated

“I need you to know that even with his sacrifice, he’s still a hero for someone,” stated Ivan Barkley, Delmar Police Chief.

The Delaware State Police stated in a press release that the suspect, Randon Wilderson, has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree, two counts of assault in the first degree, two counts of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, burglary, assault in the third degree, and terroristic threatening.

The document also made a statement about Wilkerson’s assault on the elderly couple:

Wilkerson knocked on the back door of a residence and was met by the 73-year-old male victim. The male victim was then assaulted as Wilkerson entered the house and then struck numerous times with a glass object. Wilkerson then repeatedly assaulted a 76-year-old female with the same object before fleeing the house.”

“Corporal Keith Heacook is a 22-year veteran and has been employed with our department since 1998,” Chief Barkley stated this past Sunday. “He is a husband, son, brother, and father. Keith is fighting for his life right now and he needs your prayers along with the elderly couple who were also injured. Members from the Delmar Police appreciate the outpouring of community support as we continue to move forward.”

Kathy Jennings, Attorney General of Delaware, stated that Heacook’s killer would be held accountable for his deplorable crimes.

“He will be held accountable for his heinous crimes against Cpl. Heacook, against the elderly couple he viciously attacked, and against Delmar and our entire state,” Jennings stated.

“We are here to mourn the loss of a man who devoted his entire career to the selfless cause of serving the rest of us,” she continued. “And we are here to acknowledge law enforcement across this state who willingly face danger each and every day so that all of the rest of us don’t have to.”

A charge of murder is expected to be added to the list of Wilkerson’s charges.
