The insanely popular Twitter account known as Libs of TikTok(LOTT) has, on multiple occasions, found itself banned from the platform, and now the person who heads it up seems to have shared leaked Slack conversations between a few Twitter employees explaining their reasoning for having taken steps to silence her.
Over the course of its life, Libs of TikTok has changed from being a silly spectacle into a public service that exposes preschool teachers who are secretly telling their students that they can just choose their own genders.
Recently, however, the account has seen itself banned from the platform for its “Mega Drag Thread,” in which it compiled a large list of drag events that were targeted at children. The account was, in fact, reinstated but then a still currently anonymous Twitter employee sent images of an alleged internal talk about how the person running the LOTT account was just a “domestic terrorist.” LOTT then released the acquired screenshots via its most recent newsletter published on Substack.
The employees started by giving reactions to a tweet and making the claim that LOTT was “going to get somebody killed” by putting out an advertisement for Drag Queen Story Hour in Alachua County, Florida.
“Feels more likely that libsoftiktok will get a verified platform badge out of this than a platform ban, happy pride,” one employee stated, seemingly sarcastically, while talking on the #social-watercooler channel.
“This has been escalating for months fwiw,” another person spoke up.
“But our expectations out of twitter are so low right now that the devil himself is having to squat to get to their level,” stated another comment in the thread.
“Like I don’t get how this account, which exists solely to generate targeted violence at marginalized people, continues to be allowed to post,” stated the next reaction in the thread.
“But if we deplatform this account, we might erode trust in our platform from users who already think we’re irredeemably biased against conservatives,” the following comment stated.
“I mean, we successfully deplatformed Trump – I don’t think deplatforming Libs of TikTok is going to cause a mass exodus but I guess it may not be in our “fiduciary” interest to enact a ban on a high profile account right now…” exclaims the next line.
The person was called out by the next post, however.
“Trans people are being targeted for genocidal violence during pride month,” read the next reaction.
This sparked an apology from the previous poster.
“I apologize,” they stated. “I was not speaking from my own perspective but applying a commentary on how leadership has behaved lately. I could have phrased that better and will be more conscious in future messages. I despise and despair the activity that is currently flourishing on our platform and empowering white supremacists/fascists to act with impunity in conducting harmful emotional and physical violence on trans folx and the broader LGBTQ+ community.”
Via Substack, LOTT summed up, “you don’t need leaked messages to know just how biased and agenda-driven these people are. It only confirms what we already see with our own eyes every day.”
