Muriel Bowser, the Democratic Washington, D.C. Mayor, was caught in the process of officiating a maskless indoor wedding this past Saturday, Less than 24 hours directly after setting out her new indoor mask mandate.
“Not 24 hours into the indoor mask mandate she imposed on DC, Muriel Bowser officiated an indoor wedding in Adams Morgan and stayed to fete with *hundreds* of fellow maskless guests,” as reported by Tiana Lowe from the Washington Examiner.
“When encountered by the Washington Examiner, Mayor Bowser confirmed that she officiated the maskless, indoor wedding, but when asked why she was violating her own mask mandate, her security retinue quickly escorted her away,” Lowe continued. The news source also noted that Bowser had not been sitting at her assigned table during the wedding’s official toasts.
This past Thursday, Bowser put out an announcement that residents of D.C. aged 2 and older are required to start wearing masks indoors Saturday, with no regard to their vaccination status.

This past Friday, Bowser received criticisms for her posing maskless alongside comedian Dace Chapelle just a few slight hours before her mandate was slated to go into effect. As reported by The Daily Wire:
The mayor’s office released a statement on Friday announcing that comedian Dave Chappelle would be performing in the District this weekend, with his first performance Friday night at The Anthem. Chappelle is headlining the first live public event at the venue since March 2020 and has been branded as the official re-opening of The Anthem.
Coincidentally, Bowser attended the Friday night performance — the night before the mask mandate went into effect. Masks were required at The Anthem for the show, but the District’s mandate was not in effect, allowing Bowser and Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development John Falcicchio to meet with Chappelle and pose for a photo without wearing masks.
So far throughout the pandemic, Bowser’s leadership has been a point of contention leading to much criticism and multiple lawsuits. Back in 2020, she, on multiple occasions, gave other democrats, along with herself, a pass on the mandates in the name of “essential” government business. While at the same time just down the road in D.C., a bar frequently patronized by Trump supports was fined multiple thousands for violations of the restrictions she herself refused to follow. She also was seen traveling to celebrate Old Uncle Joe’s electoral victory alongside a high-risk crowd in Wilmington, Delaware, one of the most “high-risk states” that, by her mandate, visitors were forced to go through a 14-day quarantine at the time.
“I do a lot of things to advance the interests of the District of Columbia, and some of them are formal, and some of them are informal, but all of them are necessary,” stated Bowser.
