Just like the southern border of Texas, Arizona’s border is being heavily overrun by illegal immigrants which is especially bad because of the distinct lack of media attention given when compared to Texas, according to the state’s governor.
Doug Ducey, the Republican governor of Arizona, stated in an interview with The Washington Examiner, which was published this past week, that the border of his state is “just out of control.” In the Yuma region of Arizona, encounters between Border Patrol and suspected illegal immigrants have gone up by roughly 1,000% year-over-year.
“What’s already happening in Yuma is reflective of what’s happening on the Texas border,” stated Ducey. “Arizona is a border state. We faced this before, but we’ve never faced a crisis this large in 21 years.”
A population of illegal immigrants that is almost equal to the entire population of Yuma has already forced its way across the southern border illegally since the start of the 2021 fiscal year in October 2020 through August. Yuma, which sports a population of roughly 96,000 residents, is suffering through a daily rush over about 1,000 illegal aliens, as reported by The Washington Examiner.
Ducey has made a habit of slamming Old Uncle Joe with rightful criticism for his hand in the causing of this major immigration crisis through a lax border enforcement plan. This past week, Ducey joined hands with nin other Republican governors, as part of a joint press conference, seeking to call on Biden to address the crisis taking place at the U.S. southern border and detailing the necessary steps that the administration needs to take in order to help stem the flow of illegal migrants.
“Governors are not going to sit around while President Biden refuses to act,” stated Ducey. “We’ve tried to meet with the president and be part of the solution, but he refuses. No, worse — he ignores governors, just like he’s ignoring the border and the safety of the American people.”
“The White House has suggested there are no solutions or steps they could take on the border. This is false,” the governor of Arizona stated. “If the president won’t meet, we have laid out a comprehensive set of policy actions — publicly — that would end the border crisis immediately. President Biden now has everything he needs to stop this crisis.”
Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) has taken a stand as one of the most outspoken members of the group over the entire border crisis, making it a habit to criticize Old Uncle Joe and call for stronger federal enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. This past Thursday, Abbott issued a letter to Biden seemingly appealing for the president’s decision to reject the governor’s previous request to issue an emergency declaration over the border crisis taking place in Texas.
“I request that you reconsider your denial of an emergency declaration for the State of Texas as a result of the ongoing border crisis, which reached such magnitude and duration that, on May 31, 2021, I formally recognized the disaster, and which continues to escalate as evidenced by the dire situation in Val Verde County,” wrote Abbott.
“The Department of Homeland Security’s strategy to address the migrant crisis has not alleviated the need for federal assistance to allow Val Verde County and the State of Texas to effectively respond to and recover from the ongoing border crisis,” he concluded.
